Guru Pournami

The full moon day in the month of Ashadha (July-August) is known as Guru Pournami. This sacred day honors the ancient lineage of Enlightened Beings who have graced the world with their presence, imparting the knowledge of the “Self” to those who seek inner transformation.

The word “Guru” in Sanskrit is translated as “dispeller of darkness.” Hence the Guru dispels the darkness of ignorance and leads seekers on the path to Enlightenment. The day of Guru Pournami is traditionally the time when seekers offer the Guru their gratitude and receive his blessings. Guru Pournami is also considered an especially beneficial day to practice yogic sadhana and meditation.

Guru Pournami

In search of Truth
I did the sublime and the weird

The Blessed Guru arrived
Had my knowledge routed

With his staff touched the spot sacred
Left me with this Madness infected

This Madness without cure
But it is liberation for sure

When I saw even horrific disease
Can transmit with ease

I took the liberty
Of Maddening Humanity.

– Sadhguru

This year, Guru Pournami will be celebrated at the Isha Yoga Center and iii on July 3rd. The sathsang with Sadhguru is being streamed live over the web, and the celebration will also begin at iii at 5:30 pm CST. We invite you to come and experience this day of offering and gratitude to the Guru.

This day also marks the beginning of the Isha Hata Yoga Teacher Training program, which will offer classical Hata Yoga in its full depth and dimension. The 5-and-a-half month course is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring teachers to receive this ancient knowledge from a tradition which has maintained the science of yoga in its full sanctity and vibrancy for thousands of years.
