Morale-Booster says Bhaskaran

26 November, 1996

Chennai, Nov 25 - Indian team coach V. Bhaskaran who had predicted an Indian victory before the final, said the triumph coming with the Champions Trophy round the corner, was a morale-booster.

The game strategy of slowing down the proceedings by playing the second ball upset the compos¬ure of the South Africans, Bhaskaran felt.

Admitting that he has a job to do in making the midfield coordinate well with the forwards for the important task ahead, Bhaskaran said he would be viewing the video clippings of this tournament to make his assessment.

The boys will be back for the camp on Dec. 1 for a six-day preparatory camp. A yoga training in an ashram of repute at Coimbatore from Nov. 26 to 30 is part of their preparatory plan. Bhaska¬ran felt the idea was to expose the boys to a serene atmosphere and give some relief to the mind.

The Indian team for the Champions Trophy is expected to be announced on Tuesday, either at Delhi or Bangalore, Bhaskaran added.

South African coach Giles Bonnet said the team did much better than the ultimate result and it could have been a different ball game if only they had got the equaliser. He attributed the defeat in the failure to convert the short corners.
