Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev among world’s most prominent religious and spiritual leaders to gather for world peace effort

[Nashville, TN] - Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev of the non-profit Isha Foundation, which has a center in Nashville, has been invited, along with the world’s most prominent religious and spiritual leaders to gather for the Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders, at the United Nations in New York beginning August 28, 2000. UN Secretary General Kofi Anna will address those assembled in an opening session that will precede the General Assembly’s Millennium Summit of Heads of States and Government. He has described this gathering as the first time that leaders of all religious traditions will convene together at the United Nations to work to improve the human condition and to seek peace and security for all the world’s peoples.

The Millennium World Peace Summit will explore ways that religious and spiritual leaders and the United Nations will work together more closely to achieve these goals. "Our dream is to get the pre-eminent religious leaders to the UN so they can support the peace process, in concert with the political bodies there", said Bawa Jain, Secretary General of the Summit. "I definitely feel that the religious and spiritual communities can play a substantial role in easing tensions in the world zones of conflict," he said. Summit sessions and addresses will be broadcast via UNTV and CNN also plans coverage. Beliefnet.com will produce a live webcast of the event so that these messages of hope can reach many tens of millions of people around the world. More information is available on the Summit Internet website, www.millenniumpeacesummit.org.

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, a Self-Realized Yoga Guru from South India and founder of the Isha Foundation, will have the opportunity to speak at the Summit, contribute to proposals, and sign a united resolution for peace. According to Summit officials, the first-ever council of senior religious and spiritual advisers will be established from this Summit, and will serve as a resource to the UN Secretary-General, and its members can be "parachuted" into trouble spots of world conflict.

According to Vasudev, "Never in history has humanity been as comfortable, yet as insecure as it is now," and he proclaims that the state of dissatisfaction with one’s life must first be addressed within. To assist the multitudes of people seeking solutions to manage stress and problems caused by the rapid pace of life and change around them, Sadhguru Vasudev formed the Isha Foundation in 1992 to conduct various welfare programs for the public to advance physical, mental and spiritual development. Isha Foundation does not propagate any particular nationality or religion, and works in support of all world religions for peace, love and spiritual upliftment of all.

Yoga programs and other educational opportunities for personal transformation are provided on a regular basis at various centers around the world to help individuals grow spiritually and foster better relationships, performance, health, and inner peace. Sadhguru Vasudev came to the USA in 1997 to teach his unique form of yoga that helps one to better cope with the pressures of modern society, and lead more productive and healthy lives. Vasudev returns to America two times each year to conduct programs in U.S. cities, such as Nashville, Detroit, Dayton, and Atlanta. Isha Foundation programs advocate the rich heritage of eastern spirituality and Yoga as a science, teaching peace and love as the ultimate goal of raising human consciousness. Through individual transformation, Isha helps advance worldwide social well being and peace.

Isha Foundation USA sponsors a series of IshaYoga program that offer a practice to unite the body, mind and energy. Sadhguru Vasudev maintains that world peace begins with inner peace, and he offers tools through Yoga to help one reach a deeper state of self-fulfillment. Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev stands as a unique advocate for world peace, in that his approach is through inner peace of the individual. The thirst for that which lies beyond the material is almost overwhelming in the world today, as evidenced in the vast increase of participants in yoga and meditation programs, alternative lifestyle choices and early retirements.

This enlightened master works tirelessly to lift up the individual in an almost effortless manner, helping people return to their natural, intended state of being.
