As you may know, the neem tree is truly amazing, with numerous compounds that provide an unbelievable variety of health, beauty and household benefits. You can read all about neem’s unique chemistry, its beneficial properties, and how it alleviates chronic ailments on our previous post.
All the parts of the neem tree have medicinal value, including the bark, leaves, fruit, seeds, and oils. Unfortunately, for those not living in Southeast Asia or Africa, fresh neem is usually not readily available. However, one can still enjoy the benefits of powdered neem leaf, which can be used daily both internally and externally.
Neem for Internal and External Use
Sadhguru: “The world is full of bacteria. So is the body. There are more microorganisms living in you than you can imagine. Most of these bacteria are helpful. Without them, you would not be able to digest anything. In fact, you cannot exist without them. But some bacteria can cause you trouble. Your body constantly spends energy to manage these bacteria. If excess levels of bacteria occur, you will feel “down” because your defense mechanism has to spend too much energy to fight them. By using neem internally and externally, you can manage these bacteria in such a way that they will not overgrow, and your body will not have to spend too much energy in fighting them. If you consume a certain amount of neem on a daily basis, it will destroy the troublesome bacteria in the intestinal region, and your colon will generally remain clean and free of infection.
Also, if there is a slight smell in certain areas of the body, it means bacteria are a little more active there. Almost everyone has some minor skin issues but if you wash your body with neem, it becomes clean and radiant. If you rub your body with neem paste before having a bath, let it dry for some time, and then wash it off with water, it will act as a good antibacterial cleanser. Alternatively, you can soak a few neem leaves in water overnight and bathe with this water in the morning.”
Why Take Neem and Turmeric Daily?
One of the simplest ways to incorporate neem into your health routine and reap the numerous benefits is to take a small ball of neem along with a small ball of turmeric every morning.
Like neem, turmeric has a wide variety of health benefits and effectively purifies the blood, body, and energy system. The combination of neem and turmeric cleanses the entire system, eliminating harmful bacteria while promoting healthy bacteria, and keeps the digestive system unburdened. In addition, daily consumption helps you avoid stomach infections and parasites, and it lowers the number of cancerous cells in the body.
These balls of neem and turmeric, which should be a little smaller than a marble, can be made simply by mixing a paste of water along with powdered neem and powdered turmeric.
Sadhguru: “When you come here (Isha Yoga Center), outside there will be yellow balls and green balls, small marble like balls. This is neem and turmeric. Neem paste and turmeric paste made into small marbles like that. If you take this, this is a simple way of cleansing your system.
It is a very natural herb (mix) which takes away certain type of harmful bacteria from your system and also it is good food for the good bacteria in the system…. above all it keeps your colon clean. How clean your colon is also decides how well your mind functions. If you did not know this, these two things are very directly connected. (Laughs) And, hence all the expressions around the world probably.”
