In September 2008, one U.S. center initiated Every Penny Counts as a means of showing their collective support for iii. Meditators gathered coins that were accumulating in cars, the bottom of purses, under seat cushions, and junk drawers.
The meditators arrived at Sathsang with their pockets, baggies, jars and even grocery bags filled with pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. This collection of spare change was multiplied into $1505.70 when four meditators pledged to match the donation.
Since this idea was presented as a simple means of support, in the remaining few months of 2008 five centers collected spare change at Sathsang and together they raised $5093.21 showing us that indeed, every penny counts! In 2009 the rest of our centers have taken this up and continue to send their pennies which are definitely adding up.
How to participate:
- Designate a jar, dish or bag to collect your spare change at the end of each day.
- Each month, take the collected change to Sathsang and deposit it in your center’s Every Penny Counts jar.
- Consider matching the amount of coins collected in your center for a particular month by contacting your local Sathsang coordinator.
