A New Life Born - First Baby Delivered in Isha Rural Health Clinic

21 October, 2008

Saturday, 18 October 2008 had been like any other day at the Isha Rural Health Clinic in Salem. After a long and busy day, the staff were about to retire for the night. There was a mild fragrance in the air… The plant which Sadhguru had planted at the IRHC inauguration three and a half months ago was blossoming for the first time.

It was 10 pm at night, when a pregnant lady, 21-year-old Kavitha, arrived with pain. After examining her, the resident doctor found that she was ready to deliver the baby.

The IRHC is 3km from the patient's village, and the nearest hospital for delivery was another 7 km away. The chances were high that the mother would deliver the baby on the way which would not have been safe for both the mother and the baby. So the doctor made arrangements for the delivery to be safely conducted at the IRHC itself.

Dr.Selvi D.G.O. and Dr. Thirugnanasambhandam M.S., meditators from Salem, did not hesitate to travel 26 km at a late hour to support the clinic in the delivery. At 11:12 pm, a healthy baby girl was born, weighing 2.7 kg.

For the next 42 hours, mother and child were attended to at the clinic. The baby's cry attracted nearby villagers who came to see the newborn and treated it like their own. Meditators from Salem and local coordinators came to give money for the baby and fruits for the mother, as is the tradition in India. It was like one big family rejoicing the birth of a child. The secret long time dream of the ARR doctors to conduct a delivery at ARR became a reality that day. A life was saved and another life was born!
