Make Tiruchi a Green City

04 September, 2004

TIRUCHI, SEPT.3. The Mayor, Sarubala R. Tondaiman, today launched the Vanashree Eco Project of the Isha Yoga Centre, which aims at planting one lakh saplings in the city, as part of the eco conservation programmes of the Isha Foundation.

She called for collective efforts from the residents, welfare organisations and institutions to make Tiruchi a green city. The recent drought conditions, which had rendered the Cauvery dry over the past three years was ample indication of things to come and it was essential that steps were taken to increase the green cover to preserve the fragile ecology.

The Corporation would extend full support to organisations which were engaged in increasing the green cover in the city, she said.

The Headmaster of the K.A.P. Viswanatham Higher Secondary School, Rajendran, and the Coordinator of the Vanashree project, Arungiri, spoke.
