On January 9th, 2005, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, founder of Isha Foundation, visited the Union Territory of Pondicherry to meet with prominent leaders and extend his support toward tsunami relief and rehabilitation in the area.

The morning commenced with a private meet with influential community leaders, during which Sadhguru apprised attendees of Isha Foundation’s tsunami relief efforts and Action for Rural Rejuvenation program. Attendees included the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Shri Lakshminarayan- the Education Minister.
Following the morning session, Sadhguru participated in a press meet, whereupon he spoke about Isha Foundation’s local relief work and extended his continuing support for rehabilitation work for affected communities in the area.
Sadhguru met with Shri M.M. Lakhera, the lieutenant governor of Pondicherry and acquainted him with Isha Foundation’s local tsunami relief efforts. Sadhguru spoke with him at length regarding Isha Foundation’s unique housing construction endeavor, involving the construction of cyclone, fire and tsunami resistant homes. The governor expressed his appreciation for Isha Foundation’s innovative housing venture, as well as for Isha’s contributions toward local relief efforts.
Isha Foundation has actively been engaged in relief work in Pondicherry ever since the tsunami ravaged the area. The Foundation deployed a mobile health clinic to temporarily provide medical services to severely affected areas in Karaikal. Furthermore, local volunteers donated relief materials and offered their voluntary services for immediate relief work.
Contingent on the outcome of these meetings, Isha Foundation will determine its role in long term rehabilitation within this area, as well as evaluate the level of commitment and support of these individuals as reference for future collaborative endeavors.
