The first phase of construction of IIIS began in March 2006 with the creation of lodges to accommodate 400 people. With the helping hands of volunteers from all over the country, this phase was completed in a record six months. The first Bhava Spanda program was conducted in a temporary hall in June, 2006

IIIS is currently constructing the most significant feature of the program complex, a 33,000 sq. ft., free-spanning dome structure called Mahima ("Grace"). Mahima will be the main program hall large enough to accommodate up to 1000 people for residential programs.

Construction of Mahima is expected to be completed by April 30th, 2008. (For information on supporting Mahima and the development of the U.S. Center, visit the MAHIMA FUND).

About IIIS and its surroundings

The Isha Institute of Inner Sciences, U.S.A is located on 1200 acres of Tennessee's spectacular Cumberland Plateau, one of the most bio-diverse regions in the southern United States. The Center's environment offers stunning bluff overlooks and broad forested valleys, imposing rock formations and deep caves, as well as streams, waterfalls, and a spring-fed lake.

Tennessee's renowned Cumberland Plateau includes popular destinations of natural and historical significance, including Cumberland Caverns (a breathtaking expanse of interconnecting underground caverns stretching over 30 miles), Fall Creek Falls State Park, South Cumberland State Park, and Cumberland Mountain State Park. Passing nearby from North to South is the Cumberland Trail, a 300-mile hiking trail running from the Cumberland Gap in southern Kentucky to the Prentice Cooper Wildlife Management Area just outside Chattanooga
